Ryan TeeterFor many students, the weeks leading up to college graduation may well be likened to a sprint to the finish line. While Provo native Ryan Teeter ’07, who recently graduated with a bachelor’s degree in accounting and a minor in Spanish, is definitely sprinting, he has no plans to slow down. Here’s a sampling of Ryan’s already impressive résumé: As a UVSC freshman, Ryan co-authored a nationally published middle school technology textbook. He trains business education teachers around the country how to teach speech recognition and Tablet PC technology and Provo School District teachers how to bolster their teaching with technology. He’s served on the School of Business Alumni Board, been a member of Phi Beta Lambda (the business club) and worked as a research assistant. In 2006, Ryan and his UVSC team took fifth place at the National Intercollegiate Business Ethics Competition, beating out student competitors from Ivy League schools. “The opportunities I have been given over the last few years would not have been possible without the flexibility of my professors,” Ryan said. He counts his most profound experience his service after Hurricane Katrina. Ryan took time off from school and volunteered with the American Red Cross in Montgomery, Ala., coordinating volunteer efforts. To top everything off, just one week after Ryan shared his well-received presentation, “Everything Google,” at the National Business Education Association’s convention in New York City, he received a phone call from Rutgers University in Newark, N.J., offering him full financial aid and assistantship to enroll in their doctoral program in accounting information systems. The same day, Google executives called offering Ryan a position developing curriculum and training. Ryan will spend the summer in Mountain View, Calif. working for Google before beginning his doctoral program in the fall. Ultimately, Ryan plans to become a professor of accounting because of his love of helping others learn. Recently featured as an outstanding graduate in Utah Business Magazine, Ryan credits his success to UVSC faculty. “They have taken an interest in me personally and have made me feel like I can make a difference,” he said. “UVSC has opened doors for me and allowed me to pursue my goals with fervor.” |
