UVU has come a long way since its
inception as a small vocational school.
Today, Utah Valley University has
momentum and a reputation that is
growing in stature exponentially, both in
state, and on a national stage.

This guide will help apply the UVU brand in a consistent and logical way, so we can project a unified, progressive image to all of our constituencies. By so doing, together we can build upon our tradition and history, and foster a loyal student body, faculty, alumni and community.

Any brand, whether a university or a corporation, gains strength in consistency, as it sends a clear, singular message. Conversely, loosely applied branding principles can cause confusion and weaken a brand. By following these guidelines, you will be contributing to the greater good of Utah Valley University, projecting a clear image of an institution that is vibrant, well organized and respected.

PLEASE NOTE
Failure to comply with these style guidelines may result in your department being held financially responsible to correct mistakes. If you have questions or are unsure of any particular communication piece representing the University, please contact the Office of College Marketing and Communications.

InstitutionalMark

LOGO VERSIONS
Several versions of the new University Institutional Mark have been created -- vertical, horizontal, beveled and solid. They provide options for consistent application taking into account purpose, size, prominence and production methods.

CLEARSPACE
An important element of the Institutional Mark is its clear space. This will ensure a consistent look to the brand as well as protect the logo from distractions within layout in various applications.

To determine clear space the height of the "UVU" monogram has been defined as "X."

SIZING
Proper logo size is vital in maintaining readability, as well as ensuring a consistent look throughout the University brand. Make sure the logo is applied at a confident size. This means the logo should never be overpowering (too large) or understated (too small) for each individual application.

The Minimum Size - of the Beveled Monogram*
should not be used smaller than 3/4" in height from top to bottom as shown here.

If a smaller size is required - the Solid Monogram may be used -- in one color -- but should not be reproduced smaller than 1/2" in height from top to bottom as shown here.

COLOR SCHEMES
Consistency in color usage is essential to establishing a recognizable and cohesive Identity. The 2-color version of the new Institutional Mark-beveled or solid- should be used whenever possible. The Primary green to be used with the Institutional Mark is PMS 575. It can be reproduced in any of the eight schemes shown at right.

Institutional Primary Green

The institutional mark should only appear in PMS 575, black or white. (PMS 383 and PMS 350 should be used on bevel option only)

Color use at smaller scale (minimum size or close to minimum size) for all University marks will depend upon reproduction capabilities. Color should not be forced if it impedes clear legibility.

*Primary 575 Uncoated is a custom PMS mix just for the University. Please contact University Print Services.

**Support Black (large area coverage) A "support black" can be used when printing oversized or large areas i.e. banners, posters, etc. The mix specified here should work well on coated and uncoated stocks, not exceeding a total dot density of 280.

The Minimum Sizes -- The 2 reversed logos at right demonstrate the minimum sizes for each version of the Institutional Mark: Beveled (3/4" top to bottom); Solid (1/2" top to bottom).

THE MASCOT
The Wolverine mascot plays a big part in the visual representation of the University Athletics Department. It is made up of several color layers that offer flexibility for production while maintaining visual consistency. There are several versions available: five-color (spot), four-color (process), three-color, two-color and one-color. Please use the version appropriate for the application-i.e. offset printing, silkscreen, embroidery, etc...

COLOR SCHEME
The color schemes should not be modified beyond those listed here. Please see the color palette on page 13 for full specifications. Note: Embroidery and silkscreen processes should match to the PMS Coated color specs - see page 13.

CLEARSPACE
Clear space is intended to protect the mascot from distractions in various applications. When the mascot is used alone nothing should overlap it, touch it or interfere with its legibility.

SIZING
Make sure the mascot is applied at a confident size. This means the mascot should never be overpowering (too large) or understated (too small) for each individual application. A minimum size has not been defined for the mascot. Accurate and legible reproduction should be used as the rule of thumb. If a small size or production process distorts the mascot image, it should not be used.

DO NOTS
Do not alter the proportion of the mascot artwork - horizontally or vertically. Do not reflect or "mirror" the mascot so that it is facing left instead of right.

Color palette -
Please note - The PMS 877 (silver trim) can be substituted with a PMS Cool Gray 5 Coated (or Cool Gray 4 Uncoated) if a non-metallic alternate is preferred.

THE PALETTE
The University color palette has been updated and expanded. It provides a fresh and flexible foundation for all communication materials as Utah Valley University continues to grow. Color is a powerful communicator. Please be sensitive to what you are saying. The Univesity color is green and the palette as a whole should support that message.
The color palette is divided into 3 separate sets: Primary, Complementary and Accent.

The Primary palette is to be used for all institutional marks, athletic marks and official communication which represent the University.

The Complementary palette - as defined by its name - is used to "complete" the Primary palette. It should be used in conjunction with the Primary palette but not overpower or distort the color perception of the University - which is green.

The Accent palette - as defined by its name - should never be used alone. It should be used sparingly to "accent" the

Primary and Complementary palettes with brighter colors when needed. Proper usage is essential for building a consistent visual representation of the University through color.

If you have questions or concerns in regard to a particular combination or application of these colors, please contact College Marketing and Communications.

THE PRIMARY PALETTE
The Primary palette is to be used for all institutional marks, athletic marks and official communication which represent the University.

Embroidery and silkscreen production should match the brighter, coated PMS values.

Coated and Uncoated PMS (Pantone Matching System) numbers may differ. Coated and uncoated process mixes will differ as well. All colors have been selected to match hue and value as consistently as possible between coated, uncoated, rgb and html applications.

The Primary Athletic Green - PMS 350 is NOT the same as the Primary Institutional Green. The darker color of this Athletic green offers more contrast to the other athletic colors, and allows us to use green instead of black in most every primary application.

"HEX" or "HTML" codes - as they are noted here - use only the capital letters A-F and numbers 0-9. There are no capital "O"s ( ...as in L M N O P ) .
