Tyler Thomson

TylerThomson’s intern status did not last long before he was promoted to full-time work as an animatic/previs artist for the project, scheduled to wrap up in March 2006. Thomson is responsible for animating storyboards to give the film’s director more intimate control over the action of the movie. Thomson’s talents allow the director to see camera angles and character action before the actual shooting of the film begins.

“It is all about observing life,” he said. “It’s not an accident that most of the best animators can also draw well. If you can’t reproduce or stylize what you see with a pencil, it’s going to be that much harder to do it with a mouse.”

According to Thomson, much of his success can be attributed to the Illustration and figure drawing classes he took at both UVSC and Brigham Young University. The classes he took from UVSC Professors Perry Stewart and Bob DeWitt helped him gain a solid foundation for his work in storyboarding before transferring to BYU where he further developed his illustration and animation skills.
