For Immediate Release
Lt. Gov. Gary Herbert will address graduates as the keynote speaker of UVSC’s 67th Commencement at 10:30 a.m. in the McKay Center Friday. Governor Jon Huntsman was scheduled to speak, but is recovering from a recent shoulder surgery.
“This is an extremely important time in the lives of all the UVSC graduates,” Governor Huntsman said. “I hope this is just one step in their lives toward being lifelong learners.”
"We understand the Governor is in a lot of pain and is taking appropriate measures for his health and wish him a quick recovery,” said UVSC President William A. Sederburg. “Lt. Gov. Herbert has also provided tremendous support to the College in our transition to Utah Valley University and we feel fortunate to host him for this special occasion in Governor Huntsman's stead."
Lt. Gov. Herbert, a former Utah County Commissioner, has been actively involved in UVSC’s transition to Utah Valley University and visited the College earlier this month as a featured speaker in the Reed and Christine Halladay Executive Lecture series.
Governor Huntsman will still be honored with an Honorary Doctorate of Public Service, which will be presented to him at a later date.
