For Immediate Release
This past weekend, a story on the AP Wire mistakenly indicated that UVU has dropped trade programs "just weeks after becoming a four-year university." This is not factual, and the University is working on a corrective with the AP. The specific programs mentioned in the article -- namely welding and HVAC -- were eliminated some time ago. In HVAC's case, it was dropped two years ago, and due only to a lack of interest and student enrollment. The Mountainland Applied Technology Center (MATC) now offers welding courses leading to specialized welding certifications.
Many trades programs continue to flourish at UVU, including automotive, diesel, collision, culinary arts, cabinetry, construction, drafting, electrical automation and many more. This fall, UVU will launch associate of applied science programs in both Technology and Construction Management. UVU remains committed to meeting the needs and demands of its constituents at all levels of higher education.
