UVSC Launches Study Abroad Program in Japan

UVSC will offer a study abroad program to Japan June 3-June 17, 2008. Students will enhance their Japanese language skills while visiting Tokyo, Yokohoma, Nikko, Kamakura, Hiroshima, Kyoto and Shizuoka (home of Mt. Fuji).

Language instruction will begin at UVSC before the participants depart and conclude after their return. Students can earn credit in Japanese 1010, 1020, 2020, 3050 or 3200. Dr. Chinami Yamamoto, instructor of foreign languages, will teach the classes and co-direct the program.

The cost for the program is $1,695, which covers accommodations at host family homes, hotels, transportation, rail pass, partial food and admission fees. Airfare, tuition ($135 per credit hour), and souvenirs are additional. For those applying after February 25, the program cost increases $300.

“This is a great opportunity for anyone to immerse themselves in rich history, culture, sites, technology, language, buildings and to see Japan from the business to country side and get a little bit of everything,” said Junko Watabe, coordinator for international studies.

The program is open to UVSC students and community members. Interested community members should contact UVSC’s International Study Programs office before applying at studyabroad@uvsc.edu.
