The June 30 Orem Owlz baseball game versus the Casper Ghosts, originally scheduled to be part of UVSC’s UVUphoria activities ringing in university status, has been rescheduled to accommodate concert sound crew setup for the main act of the UVUphoria Grand Celebration, which will be headlined by country stars Collin Raye, Joe Nichols and Josh Gracin in Brent Brown Ballpark.
The game against the Ghosts was originally scheduled to begin at 11:30 a.m. June 30, followed by the concert in the ballpark at 7 p.m., but the magnitude of setup and soundchecks with three acts is anticipated to be so extensive, UVSC and the Orem Owlz agreed to give sound crews more time, said Mark Hildebrand, director for the McKay Center.
“The Owlz graciously worked with us in changing their game to a double-header June 29 to accommodate setup for this concert June 30,” he said. “We’re appreciative of the Orem Owlz organization being so understanding and accomodating and apologize for any inconvenience this causes the Owlz fan base.”
Game 1 of the June 29 double header will begin at 4:05 p.m. The nightcap will get underway 30 minutes following Game 1.
Orem Owlz General Manager Aaron Wells said the Owlz will honor tickets purchased for the June 30 game at any other game during the season. Ticket holders should call (801) 377-2255 to exchange those tickets. “We certainly recognize this is a historic day to the university and the county, and the Owlz are happy to help however we can,” Wells said.
The remainder of UVSC’s UVUphoria activities June 30 will continue as scheduled. The Library Showcase, featuring activities and a sneak peak of UVSC’s new library, will be the public’s first opportunity to tour the new library and will run from 1-6:30 p.m.
The Family Fun Fest with free activities, entertainment, food vendors and more is scheduled for 4-6:45 p.m. at PACE Park (just south of the McKay Center), which will be followed by the Grand Celebration/Concert in the Brent Brown Ballpark at 7 p.m. Fireworks and a dance on the tennis courts just north of the Ballpark will follow at approximately 10 p.m. The ribbon cutting for the new library will take place during a public ceremony the following day Tuesday, July 1 at 10 a.m.
“We were very happy to have the Owlz part of our university celebration and are disappointed that this game has to be dropped from our UVUphoria schedule of events,” said Val Hale, vice president of advancement and co-chair of the UVUphoria Grand Celebration. “That said, we continue to have a full line-up of events scheduled, and we look forward to celebrating on this historic day with the community as we transition to full university status on July 1.”
