UVU sophomore Christina Lowe, a history and political science major from Midway, Utah, was recently pronounced Miss UVU.
Lowe beat out 14 other competitors in the pageant, which was the biggest turnout in history for the Miss UVU Pageant. Lowe has participated in a pageant before and wanted to participate in this event to help influence UVU and thought it would be a great learning experience especially with the College transitioning into university status.
In the pageant, Lowe was asked a series of questions and had to perform a talent. For her talent she sang the song, “Time to Say Goodbye,” by Sara Brightman. With her new crowning, Lowe promises to promote political process and encourage students to vote.
“In the next year I plan to hold rallies at UVU that feature keynote debates, promoting early voting,” Lowe said. “I plan to visit elementary schools to sing patriotic songs and speak to kids about the importance of voting and politics. I’ll also visit high schools and require 17 year olds to register to vote, so by the time they’re 18 they will be able to vote and not put it off because they didn’t register.”
Stephanie Millard, from Orem, Libby Chatfield, from Alpine, Utah and Katie Angerbauer from Bountiful, Utah were crowned as Lowe’s attendants.
For winning Miss UVU, Lowe received a $1,000 scholarship to UVU, a Bon Losee necklace, $100 credit to Bon Losee and $200 credit to UVU’s bookstore.
Lowe will compete in the Miss Utah pageant later this year.
