President Sederburg Celebrates a Great Year and Thanks the State at His Annual "Sandwiches with Sederburg"

Addressing a full house of Utah Valley State College faculty and staff Tuesday afternoon in the Grande Ballroom, President William A. Sederburg thanked the state of Utah for its commitment to UVSC and reviewed UVSC’s successes for the ’07-’08 school year, including unanimous Legislative support. He then gave employees a snapshot of his vision for the College going forward as Utah Valley University, including an increase in students, faculty and staff, facilities and degrees.

Sederburg outlined 2008-2009 budget allocation details, addressing how the College would be spending more than $17 million this year on the transition to university status, supporting compensation initiatives, managing and expanding resources to support UVU’s mission and future growth, providing programs and services to recruit and retain students and supporting the College’s goal to provide an educational experience centered on students, scholarship and regional engagement.

“We plan on bringing on additional staff to support student growth in the future,” Sederburg said, projecting an increase in academic advisors to support current and new students, in addition to student support expansion in areas like Financial Aid and the Testing Center. The College will also be hiring more salaried faculty to support a Master’s of Nursing, planned for Fall 2009 and a Master’s of Business in Fall 2010, pending Board of Regents approval.

The addition of the new library to campus, operational July 1 with the official announcement of the university name change, will also increase staff and space - an addition Sederburg said was made possible by the support of Utahns and the Legislature.

“I have to give credit to the state of Utah and the Legislature for their commitment to UVSC, which helped us make UVU and the new library possible, and continues to help us reduce adjuncts, improve our advisor/student ratios and bring on master’s degrees,” he said. “We’ve had 100 percent support all around. We owe a great deal of gratitude to the people of Utah for their support of UVU.”

Sederburg said all of this would assist in expanding UVSC into a first-class university for Utah.
