Young history buffs from all over Utah County will converge on UVSC’s Orem campus March 10, when UVSC hosts the Utah Valley Regional History Fair. Students grades 4-12 will compete with historical projects, with the winners moving on to a state competition.
Every year, the History Fair, which is spearheaded by Utah State University, has a theme around which the competition is based. This year’s theme is “Conflict and Compromise In History.” Students who participate in the History Fair choose their own topic based on this theme, and then choose the method of presenting their information. They may build an exhibit, write a paper on their chosen topic, design a Web site or create a documentary or dramatic performance. There are three divisions of the competition—the Primary Division, which is made up of grades 4-5; the Junior Division, which involves grades 6-8; and the Senior Division, made up of grades 9-12.
Regional winners from the Junior and Senior Divisions go on to compete in the State History Fair April 16. Finalists from the state competition will go on to compete at the national fair in Washington, D.C. in June.
The Fair, which will be held in the Sorensen Student Center, is free and open to those who would like to support the contestants. For more information, visit www.usu.edu/utahfair/histfair.
