In an effort to raise awareness about violence against women and girls, UVSC will perform “The Vagina Monologues” in conjunction with V-Day, Feb. 26 at 7 p.m. in the Ragan Theater.
V-Day is a worldwide campaign promoting events to increase awareness, raise money and revitalize the spirit of existing anti-violence organizations in more than 80 different countries. The “Vagina Monologues” at UVSC is part of V-Day’s national college campaign. The play will be performed at colleges and universities throughout the country.
“The purpose of this event is to increase awareness to stop the violence and improve our communities by supporting women,” said Carmell Hoopes-Clark, president of the UVSC Gender Studies Club and organizer of the event.
The Monologues focus on real life experiences and issues concerning women from all different cultures and backgrounds. Proceeds from this year’s UVSC event will be donated to the Center for Women & Children in Crisis in Provo, a sanctuary since 1984 for women and children dealing with domestic violence as well as those who have been raped or sexually assaulted. All services provided at the Center are free. For more information, visit http://cwcic.org.
Tickets for the Vagina Monologues can be purchased at Campus Connection, (801) 863-8797. Tickets are $10 for general admission and $7 with UV ID.
