The recent mass-casualty events at Trolley Square, Virginia Tech and other beg the answer to the question, “Are Utah first responders prepared?” Firefighters, police officers and emergency medical services (EMS) responders have a new tool to help them manage emergency incidents. The Command Training Center (CTC), located at the Utah Fire and Rescue Academy in Provo, Utah is planned as one of the premier incident management training facilities in the nation.
The CTC will provide training to fire officers, law enforcement commanders and EMS managers in a “virtual” world experience. Instructors will guide students to properly manage the incident, which will dramatically increase responder safety and help emergency managers effectively organize and manage fire, police and EMS emergencies.
Media are invited to join program developers as well as officials from Utah Valley State College, Utah Office of Public Safety, State of Utah Fire Chiefs, City Mayors, Police Chiefs and emergency responders from around the state to an open house and grand opening of the CTC.
Tours and simulations in the CTC will be conducted throughout the day. Best media time will between 8:15 a.m. and 11:30 a.m. Ribbon-cutting at 8:30 a.m.
