UVSC Provides College on the Weekends

In addition to classes and resources available during the week, Utah Valley State College’s Office of Extended Studies offers Weekend College which provides several reasons for students to come to campus on Saturdays.

Approximately 1,300 students this fall are enrolled in more than 70 classes held Saturday mornings as part of Weekend College. Classes start at 8 a.m. and 10:45 a.m., allowing students to take classes back to back. Classes are offered from each of the major schools on campus. Added benefits of weekend classes include smaller class sizes, quiet surroundings and free parking on campus. Classes end by 1:30 p.m., leaving students all afternoon and evening to enjoy other weekend activities.

“It allows people the opportunity to complete their graduation goals sooner,” said Joy Brown, extended studies coordinator. “And the students this program attracts are interested in getting done quickly, so they work hard and are intent on getting things done.”

In addition to the classes, other services are available Saturdays. An academic advisor is on campus from 9 a.m. to noon. The College Bookstore and Campus Connection are open from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Peer tutoring, math and writing labs are open from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. The testing center is available for students to take tests from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Scoops is open from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. The library is open from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. The student computer lab in SC 215 is open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

“We’re hoping to keep expanding the program so we can reach more students,” Brown said. “We want to provide for students more upper division courses that they might not be able to get during the week.”
