Education "Profits" Students
UVSC Weekend College Helps Students Earn More

Orem, UTAH– College graduates earn 75 percent more than high school graduates.

Utah Valley State College offers students over 400 evening classes and 64 weekend classes to help working adults earn bachelor’s degrees.

“Without a flexible schedule, I could never dream of getting my bachelor’s degree,” said Melissa Brady, 25, a history major junior at UVSC. Brady, a working mother of one, attends classes four nights per week and on Saturdays with her husband, Daniel, a UVSC Computer Technology sophomore, while grandma babysits.

“UVSC Evening and Weekend College is best for us because we both work full-time,” Brady said. “My parents always stressed getting a college education. After I started working, I realized a degree is directly tied to job security, financial independence, and self-esteem.”

According to the U.S. Department of Labor, workers with a bachelor’s degree have higher median incomes and lower unemployment rates than workers with less education. Data from a Current Population Survey (CPS) shows the median earnings for all college graduates is 75 percent more than the median for all high school graduates. The college graduate unemployment rate was 2.4 percent, less than half the rate for high school graduates.

College classes also make people more interesting, according to Brady. “History is fascinating. I really love what I study,” she said.

UVSC will host four Open Houses to provide information and class registration:
