Mr. & Miss UVSC International Pageant
Utah Valley State College presents the 3rd annual Mr. & Miss UVSC International Pageant November 11 at 7 p.m. in the Ragan Theater. The pageant is in conjunction with UVSC’s Global Awareness Week November 7-13. The pageant is hosted by UVSC’s Black Student Union in association with Student Government and the multicultural department. Entertainment will be provided by the UVSC Jazz band and other UVSC entertainers.
Nine finalist couples will represent students from the United States, Polynesia, Haiti, Latin America, Asia, Romania, Guatemala and Spain. Contestants will represent their individual countries with a five-minute ambassadorial speech, model of a traditional formal wear, followed by individual talents in dance, music and other creative art forms.
The pageant was created to show community awareness and support for different cultures represented at UVSC. The theme of the pageant is “We are the World,” with a Marti Gras celebration style, in honor of hurricane Katrina evacuees from New Orleans. Several evacuees now living in Salt Lake City have been invited as special guests to the pageant.
The UVSC library and academic departments will showcase a regional multicultural display representing the participating countries. Pageant tickets are $7 each and $6 with student ID and can be purchased at Campus Connection, (801) 863-9797. Proceeds will go toward a scholarship for the winners. For more information contact Nancy Cannon at (801) 863-8844.
