UVSC College Marketing Garners National Recognition

The Utah Valley State College Marketing office was honored at the University & College Designers Association’s (UCDA) 35th Annual Design Competition with an Award of Excellence in photography.

“This competition positions us against the very best in higher education photography,” said Melynda Burt, director of creative services for college marketing. “We are honored to be selected from such a rich pool of entries. The award demonstrates the skill of our campus photographers in technical areas and composition.”

Awards of Excellence were given to 204 of the over 1,300 entries that were made in several categories including photography, recruitment materials, advertising and newsletters, among others. UVSC entered a series of photographs shot by College Marketing Photographer Jacob Scott depicting student athletes in the College’s Division I athletics programs. Scott photographed the athletes, including the 2005 NCAA Division I Independent player of the year Ronnie Price, on plexi-glass with a white background. The style of photographs created a powerful and recognizable brand that has been used to market the College and its athletics department.

The UCDA is an organization geared toward promoting excellence in visual communications for institutions of higher education. The design competition is part of the UCDA’s annual conference.
