UVSC to Host Let Haiti Live Benefit Concert

The Amnesty International Chapter of Provo has organized the Let Haiti Live Benefit Concert that will be held Nov. 4 in the UVSC Grande Ballroom at 8 p.m. and feature a live performance by the Chilean folk group “Inti-Illimani.” Amnesty International has organized the event to make others aware of the poverty and sickness in Haiti and to raise funds to help alleviate those problems.

“This is a wonderful opportunity to make a difference in the lives of the Haitian people since the proceeds of the concert will be going to charities in Haiti,” said Jessy Gonzalez, one of the concert organizers and a member of Amnesty International. “If we sell the concert out we will be able to donate more than $15,000 dollars. That can really make a difference.”

“Inti-Illimani” originated nearly 40 years ago by group of Chilean engineering students.

Their folk sound is a unique blend of passion and poetry. The group has played in several other Amnesty International concerts with Peter Gabriel, Bruce Springsteen, Mercedes Sosa, Sting and Wynton Marsalis.

There is a $20 admission fee and all proceeds will go to Amnesty International, which will then distribute the funds to several non-profit organizations to provide aid for the people of Haiti. Tickets can be purchased at Campus Connection, (801) 863-8797, or at Los Andes Chilean Restaurant in Orem.
