UVSC Department of Dance to host International Artists
The internationally acclaimed West African Dance Artist, Yousouff Koumbassa has been invited by the UVSC department of dance to teach special classes on September 28 and 29. Koumbassa will be accompanied by master drummer, Fodi Bangoura and master balafonist, Facinet Bangoura.
All classes will be taught in the Physical Education building. The class schedule is as follows: Wednesday, September 28, 11:00-11:50 a.m. in PE 112 Dance as an Art Form, 12:30-1:50 p.m. in PE 152 Modern Technique І, ІІ & ІІІ and 2:00-2:50 p.m. in PE 112 Dance as an Art Form. Thursday, September 29, 11:00 a.m.-12:20 p.m. in PE 152 Ballet Tech І &ІІ and 12:30-1:50 p.m. in PE 152 Modern Tech І, ІІ & ІІІ.
“Koumbassa is a brilliant and dynamic teacher, performer and choreographer and considered by many to be the foremost teacher of Guinean dance in the U.S.,” said Kim Strunk, department chair and dance professor, “the department of dance is committed to enhancing student’s understanding of other cultures.”
