UVSC Unveils New Education Building
Utah Valley State College will unveil the newest addition to campus October 28 at 10 a.m. at the refurbished 1978 redbrick schoolhouse now being used as the Education Building. Located at 800 South and 950 West, the building was originally Vineyard Elementary School. Briant Farnsworth, dean of education, will host the ribbon-cutting ceremony staged at the South entrance near the center of the building. President Sederburg and members of the Board of Trustees are expected to address the audience.
UVSC acquired the 12-acre property on July 1, 2004. The Utah County Legislature funded the acquisition in the amount of $6.4 million. The department assumed an additional $1.7 million for the renovation. Each “smart” classroom features new and quality technology including computers, plasma screens and multimedia electronics. In addition, there are two computer labs for instruction and student use.
The building is also equipped with its own library of current public school materials. The large classrooms give teacher trainees the experience of teaching in an actual grade school. There are nearly 400 students in the education program including early childhood and preschool daycare programs.
The UVSC police academy also shares the facilities along with a new forensic lab under construction. For more information contact Briant Farnsworth at (801) 863-8006.
