New York Times Reporter Speaks at UVSC

Investigative reporter for the New York Times and 2004 Pulitzer Prize recipient David T. Barstow will be speaking at Utah Valley State College in the student center’s Grande Ballroom, November 2 at 12 p.m.

Barstow will address academic freedom and first amendment rights on the 21st century college campus. Barstow has worked as a journalist for close to 20 years and has also covered significant events such as the 2000 presidential election, financial aid for 9/11 victims and was awarded the Pulitzer Prize in public service for examining death and injury among American workers and exposed employers who broke safety rules.

Before the New York Times, Barstow worked in Florida for the St. Petersburg Times where he was a finalist for three Pulitzer prizes.

“Students, faculty and the general public have a great opportunity to hear a Pulitzer Prize winner’s perspectives on the first amendment,” said Kathryn McPherson, assistant vice president for academic affairs. “Barstow is at the cutting edge of investigative journalism.”
