UVSC Presents Global Awareness Week
Utah Valley State College will celebrate Global Awareness by hosting the first-ever Global Awareness Week November 7 -13, coordinated by the International Affairs office. Various UVSC departments will be holding activities associated with global awareness for the benefit of students, faculty, staff and guests.
Throughout the week there will be extracurricular activities including a lecture by His Excellency Kassahun Ayele, Ambassador of Ethiopia to the US, a Hunger Banquet in conjunction with the Center of Service and Learning, a Mr. and Miss. UVSC International pageant and an International Sports Night. Other activities include an executive lecture series, Fiesta Hispana dinner and performance will take place throughout the week. Additionally, a parade displaying international costumes through the halls of UVSC, an international food cook-off, international movie night and International Student Council Dance are planned, though still pending.
The Global Awareness Week will conclude with a fireside sponsored by the Orem Insitutue of Religion on November 13.
SCHEDULE OF EVENTS:
Monday, November 7:
10 a.m. – Parade of International Costumes. Parade starts in the LA Building and ends in the Grande Ballroom where international clubs will have cultural displays.
12 noon – International Food Cook-off. This fundraiser will support the international clubs on campus. Held in the Grande Ballroom.
Tuesday, November 8:
6:30 p.m. – Hunger Banquet in Grande Ballroom.
Wednesday, November 9:
10 a.m. – Lecture by His Excellency Kassahun Ayele, Ambassador of Ethiopia to the US in the Ragan Theater.
11 a.m. – 1 p.m. – Panel of Employers in SC 206b
6 p.m. – International Service and Learning Project Presentations from Russia, Ghana, Mexico and Guatemala.
Thursday, November 10:
11:30 a.m. – Lunchtime Ethics Open Discussion in LC 243 (Faculty Seminar Room)
12 noon – Executive Lecture Series presents Deborah Palmieri, president and CEO of the American Russian Chamber of Commerce, in the Ragan Theater.
6 p.m. – International 3 on 3 Basketball Tournament.
Friday, November 11
7 p.m. – Mr. and Miss. UVSC International Pageant.
Saturday, November 12
6:30 p.m. – Fiesta Hispana Dinner in SC 206.
8 p.m. – Fiesta Hispana Performance in the Ragan Theater.
