UVSC Construction Students Place in National Contest
Five Utah Valley State College construction management students won third place in the National Association of Home Builders competition at the International Builders Convention in Orlando, Fla.
“These dedicated students bring high morals, integrity and honor to the industry,” said Eric Linfield, assistant professor of UVSC building construction and construction management. “They are passionate about what they do and are blazing a trail for future students to follow.”
The students were required to put together a winning solution for a customized home-building project with the following requirements: a full set of project drawings, a fully detailed estimate of the construction costs, a time schedule, a cost comparison with alternatives, a market research report detailing demographics and amenities and a 10-minute presentation for the panel of six judges.
The team consisted of Bret Riggle, York, Penn.; Brandi Golding, Pleasant Grove, Utah; Vince Ngyuen, Vietnam; Brett Munden, Lindon, Utah; and Charlie Pahulu, Orem, Utah. Each person in the group sacrificed an estimated 100 hours to the preparation of the team project. Following the competition, all team members were offered internships from employers attending the convention.
