Lectures on “Master and Commander” at UVSC
Count Nikolai Tolstoy, grandson of distinguished Leo Tolstoy, will lecture at Utah Valley State College October 24-29. Over these five days, Tolstoy will discuss the work of his stepfather Patrick O’Brian, British author of the great naval history series “Master and Commander.”
Adjunct UVSC professor Tolstoy is himself a renowned author of titles such as “Coming of the King,” “Stalin's Secret War,” “The Minister and the Massacres,” and “Patrick O’Brian: A Personal Memoir.”
Tolstoy plans to debut several unpublished manuscripts, journals and documents at UVSC. He looks forward to working with faculty and students on articles, papers and research. The five-day unparalleled opportunity to garner from Tolstoy’s expertise is open to UVSC and the entire community.
The Office of the Academic Vice President and the Office of International Affairs is pleased host Tolstoy for the third time over the past 10 years. “We are breaking new ground here at UVSC. This gives us a very powerful literary tradition,” Rusty Butler, associate vice president international affairs, said.
A schedule of lectures is forthcoming. For more information contact Rusty Butler at (801) 863-8994 or visit at www.uvsc.edu/tolstoy.
