Congressman Cannon to Speak on Ethics and Government at UVSC
The Center for the Study of Ethics atg UVSC will host a lecture featuring Congressman Chris Cannon Monday, Sept. 12 at 11 a.m. in LC 243. His speech will focus on ethics in government. Following his remarks he will answer questions from the audience.
“Whether you agree or disagree with Cannon on certain public policy issues, it’s important for us to engage in civic dialogue because that’s how democracy works,” said David Keller, director for Ethics Center at UVSC.
Cannon was re-elected for a fifth term representing Utah’s Third District in the US House of Representatives in 2004 by winning 61 percent of the votes. He currently serves on the Government Reform, Judiciary and Resources Committees. Along with his committee work, Cannon is a member of the Steel Caucus and chairman of the Western Caucus, a group of 55 House members. In 1998, Cannon served on the House Committee to impeach President Clinton.
Elaine Englehardt, the UVSC’s federal liaison, said the College invites Utah senators and congressmen to visit campus each year to meet with students, faculty, staff and the administration.
“Congressman Cannon has taken a special interest in our college,” said Englehardt. “He has proposed legislation to help fund our forensics program and is very interested in creating jobs and helping the economy in this area.”
