UVSC Employee Honored by Utah County Sheriff’s Department
Dennis Hales, director of Utah Valley State College’s Adult School-to-Careers, was given the Citizens Service Award May 11 by the Utah County Sheriff’s Department for his work helping inmates continue their education.
The Utah County Sheriff’s Department said they recognize Hales as a dedicated supporter of education who opens new doors for people who may only see what is closed.
Hales met with inmates to set educational goals, helped them achieve their goals and assisted some inmates with scholarships. He recently held a conference at UVSC to improve the teaching and opportunities of inmates. He was also awarded a $50,000 grant to fund a computer lab, books, classes and other educational resources for inmates of the Utah County Jail.
