UVSC Graduate Presents with American Academy of Dermatology
Danielle White ’04, co-founder of the Cancer Crusaders Organization has been traveling throughout the summer presenting, “Only Skin Deep?” to schools and organizations around the country.
“Only Skin Deep?” is a project that was created as part of White’s senior thesis at UVSC where she earned a degree in integrated studies. The presentation teaches young adults about skin cancer prevention and the importance of sun safety and overall skin health. Cancer Crusaders is a non-profit organization with the objective to educate youth. White also developed the new national Skin Cancer Awareness ribbon/symbol, an orange ribbon with a sun shining through the loop.
White was invited in September by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the Environmental Protection Agency to participate in the first annual National Council on Skin Cancer Prevention Summit in Bethesda, Maryland. “I am honored to serve with brilliant people who have dedicated their entire lives to serving and educating people about skin cancer,” said White. “We have been able to reach 118,000,000 people worldwide in just a year since being incorporated as a cancer education facility.”
The next stop for White and her fellow Cancer Crusaders is Chicago on November 1, where they have been invited by the American Academy of Dermatology to share insights and ideas on how communities can effectively teach youth and college athletes about skin cancer and to begin plans for an upcoming national teen summit on sun safety.
