UVSC Multimedia Students win Student Grammy Award

Nine Utah Valley State College students from the multimedia department were chosen by the Audio Engineering Society to defend their multimedia project at the Audio Engineering convention student competition in New York City last October.

The project submitted was a production completed in July 2004 called the Big Front Porch. Singer/song writers from Nashville, Tennessee came to UVSC for a performance at the Ragan Theater. The Multimedia Department set up a six camera shoot and 24 track audio production of the concert.

The production was then sent to the Audio Engineering Society to be judged. The production was accepted and the students were invited to compete at the Audio Engineering convention student competition.

The UVSC students competed in the surround sound category and were required to defend their production to a panel of judges for two hours. Berkley School of Music, UCLA and McGill University were some of the fellow participants at the competition.

UVSC was awarded the Student Grammy award for the best audio for post production and outstanding surround sound.

“Because of the difficulty, not many colleges can do audio for post production.

UVSC is pioneering in this field of media,” said Mike Wisland, assistant professor of multimedia communication technology at UVSC. “This competition shows that UVSC is doing productions beyond the capabilities of other major colleges.”
