UVSC School of Science & Health to Host Seminar
The School of Science & Health at Utah Valley State College will host a Colloquium (Academic Seminar) on Monday, September 19 at 4 pm in the Pope Science building, room 202.
The Keynote speaker will be Dr. Steve Pierson, the Head of Government Relations for the American Physical Society in Washington, D.C., and affiliate professor of physics at the Worcester Polytechnic Institute.
Pierson’s topic of discussion will be, “Federal Funding for the Physical Sciences, China, and the U.S. Congress.” He will focus on the lack of U.S. federal funding for the physical sciences and the progression of science and technology infrastructures in countries like China and India.
“U.S. leadership in many scientific fields is, or will soon be, challenged.” said Pierson. “I will discuss the challenges to U.S. leadership, explain the American Physical Society (APS) advocacy efforts to increase science research budgets and review how individual scientists remain the most important component.”
