UVSC Offers Distant Education Online Classes to Hurricane Victims
The department of Distant Education at UVSC are helping students and others affected by Hurricane Katrina by giving victims the opportunity to enroll in any of the 150 television or online courses UVSC offers.
Distant Education contacted the National Association of Universities and Land Grant Colleges shortly after the tragedy of Hurricane Katrina and offered assistance. Students who were evacuated can now register at www.collegerelief.org and can begin classes during the second block of the semester through Utah Electronic College, a UVSC affiliate.
Students in the National Guard have also been given the opportunity to continue their education while aiding the devastated states. More than 600 students have registered with schools throughout the U.S. who offer Distant Education. UVSC is the only state institution in Utah that responded to this need.
“This opportunity allows students to stay in school, not have to relocate and start their life again knowing their education advancement will continue.” said Farah Chase-Dunn, marketing/public relations coordinator of Distant Education at UVSC. “We are excited to welcome students from throughout our country to the virtual hallways of UVSC. We also appreciate the faculty and staff who are making this possible and welcome our new ‘Wolverines’ with open arms.”
