Welding Students Honored

The Provo Rotary Club recognized the students and instructors of the Utah Valley State College Welding Department by presenting them with a plaque for their efforts in building the Provo Rotary Club Legacy Bridge.

The Rotary Club approached the Welding Department with the project of building a bridge located above Bridal Veil Falls in Provo Canyon and across the Provo River. There is a plaque on either side of the bridge, recognizing the Rotary Club and those who put forth the effort to build the bridge.

“It’s great for the students because they get to weld on something that is a real life experience,” UVSC Welding Technology Professor Lynn Baadsgaard said. “They had a hands-on experience reading blue prints and they were able to apply what they had learned in the classroom.”

The Rotary Club invited Robert Gull, the project coordinator, and Baadsgaard to a Rotarian dinner to thank them for their time and work. The Welding Department was also presented with a plaque for their efforts in fabricating the bridge.
