High School Students Will Learn to “Be Their Own Boss” at UVSC

Utah Valley State College Small Business Development Center is hosting the second annual “Be Your Own Boss: The Ultimate Entrepreneurship Camp.” There will be two sessions, one from June 13-17 and the second from June 27-July 1. Thirty high school students from Utah County will attend each session.
“The program is designed to be a complete real world experience,” said Cory Holley, an advisor in Small Business Development at UVSC. “High school students will develop and start a business that is feasible for them to continue through the summer and high school.”

The camp will focus on experiential learning in entrepreneurship. High school students will be advised by nationally recognized Young Entrepreneurs’ Organization mentors and UVSC entrepreneurship students. Mentors will walk students through the business process step-by-step from idea generation to implementation.

Attendees will also be put into teams to form companies. Each group will compete with their ideas on a business plan, oral presentation and overall feasibility. Members of the winning team will be awarded a full-tuition scholarship for one semester at UVSC.
