Renowned Speaker to Address UVSC Faculty
Faculty members at Utah Valley State College will bring in the new academic year with internationally acclaimed speaker and writer Margaret Wheatley August 17 at 10:30 a.m. in UVSC’s Ragan Theater. The title of Wheatley’s address is “Creating Collaboration Across Generational Differences” and she will engage in a 15-minute question and answer session following her presentation.
“We are delighted to have Dr. Wheatley address our faculty,” said Brad Cook, vice president for academic affairs at UVSC. “Her experience, scholarship and ideas have given her innovative and deeper insights into people and organizations and she will assist the institution as we continue to build a greater sense of academic community.”
Wheatley has been an organizational consultant and researcher since 1973 and currently heads The Berkana Institute as president. The institute is a global charitable leadership foundation dedicated to serving life-affirming leaders. Wheatley is also known for her many books including “Leadership and the New Science.” Published in 1992, the book is credited with establishing a fundamentally new approach to thinking about organizations and is a standard in many leadership programs throughout the world.
Wheatley received her doctorate from Harvard University in administration, planning and social policy. She holds an M.A. in communications and systems thinking from New York
University, and has also been a research associate at Yale University. In May 2003, Wheatley received the highest award given by The American Society for Training and Development, the “Distinguished Contribution to Workplace Learning and Performance.”
