ACT Exam Deadline Approaching for UVSC Incoming Freshman

Utah Valley State College incoming freshman starting fall 2005 are now required to take the ACT college placement exam. The remaining national test dates are April 9 and June 11. Registration deadlines are one month before each test.

The ACT exam helps assess the education level of incoming freshman to accurately place them in pre-college or college courses. An ACT score below 19 in reading, math and English will require a UVSC entering student to take pre-college classes.

"Receiving academic information on potential students from the ACT allows us to plan a year in advance regarding incoming students," said Michelle Lundell, UVSC associate vice president of student services.
Transfer students with 15 credits or more and nontraditional students 21 years or older will not be required to take the exam. Instead, the Compass test will be required for placement of these students as well as for students who scored lower than 19 on the ACT.

UVSC will remain an open-enrollment institution, accepting all who apply. The ACT exam is used only to evaluate course placement and college readiness. A residual ACT exam is offered at UVSC Testing Services for those who missed the national testing dates.

Register for the test at www.actstudent.org. or for more information on UVSC requirements, contact Paula Tibbetts at (801) 863-8480.
