UVSC Library Accepts Food for Fines
The Utah Valley State College library is accepting canned food from all students who have overdue fines. Students can bring in canned goods now through December 15 anytime during the library’s extended finals hours, Monday-Thursday from 7 a.m. to 12 p.m., Friday from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. and Saturday from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m.
For each can of food the library will deduct one dollar from overdue fines, donations will be given to the Utah County Food Bank.
The UVSC library has sponsored “Food for Fines” since 1995 and each year the amount of food has increased; last year 2400 pounds of food was given compared to the 700 pounds of food donated the first year.
“Food for Fines has been very successful,” said Michael Freeman, director of the library. “This program provides a valuable service to the community and also benefits the students.”
