“Stress Busters” Relieves Final Exam Anxiety at UVSC
Students at Utah Valley State College are gearing up for final exams in more ways than study groups and all-night cramming this year. Student Health Services on campus and the UVSC Wellness Center are sponsoring a “Stress Busters” event December 7-8 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the Hall of Flags and the Sorensen Center.
The event is designed to give students the opportunity to relax and relieve the stress of final exams next week. “It’s important for students to take a break and have some fun during this stressful time,” said Amy Grubbs, wellness education assistant director, Student Health Services. “Research has shown that students remember more and are more effective on exams if they take the time to relax and break-up their study time.”
There will be seven different “Zones” in the Hall of Flags; Sports Zone with golf putting, sports movie highlights, basketball hot shots, Dance Dance Revolution and a Frisbee toss; Relaxation Zone with cosmetologists doing hair and make-up, hand, shoulder and scalp massages as well as massage equipment handling the feet and back; Game Zone with TV’s and Love Sacs available for video gaming from Rhino Video and dartboard, chess and checkers matches; Art Zone with a graffiti wall and art table for
students to draw; Health Zone complete with information on test-taking anxiety, time management, exercise and good nutrition; Movie Zone where students can watch “A Christmas Story;” and Service Zone where students can make gifts for sub-for-Santa.
Various departments on campus will have “Stress Busters” specials for the two-day event including discounts on food and on items in the UVSC Bookstore. For more information, contact Amy Grubbs at (801) 863-8127.
