“A Marrying Man” Shakespearian Play Debuts at UVSC

UVSC presents “A Marrying Man” an original remix of scenes from William Shakespeare’s comedies in celebration of his early romantic life. The two-hour theatrical production was scripted by playwright Christopher Clark, UVSC adjunct professor. “A Marrying Man” debuts in the UVSC Black Box Theater (GT 627) and will run for 10 nights, November 17-19, 21-22, 29-30 and December 1-3 at 7:30 p.m.

“A Marrying Man” is the first comedy to use Shakespeare’s own 37 plays to create a fictional masterpiece surrounding Shakespeare’s marriage at age 18. The play was created with such authenticity that Shakespearian fans will recognize lines from the legend’s plays such as “The Comedy of Errors,” “The Two Gentlemen of Verona” and “As You Like It.” Clark said, “Every word spoken in the play was written by Shakespeare.”

UVSC student, Stephen Driggs, composed the music for the play and other student volunteers designed the set and costumes. Clark and the cast hope “A Marrying Man” will qualify for the national Kennedy Center American College Theatre Festival in Washington D.C. next spring. Prior to the festival, the play will compete at the Region VIII festival held at Southern Utah University in January 2006.

Tickets are available at Campus Connection, (801) 863-8797.
