UVSC Polynesian Dance Company to Host Grand Luau
The Utah Valley State College’s Polynesian Dance Company, Legacy, will host its annual grand Luau featuring authentic food and dance, Friday, September 9 at 8 p.m. in the Courtyard. The event serves to teach the community about Polynesian culture and to raise money for student scholarships.
“It will be a fun night for everyone to come together to understand the meaning of Polynesia through song and dance,” said Moana Angilau, UVSC multicultural center advisor and organizer of the show. “It is a great event because it promotes the culture, builds relationships within the community and helps fulfill the mission of the company by supporting the students academically.”
The evening will begin with an authentic Polynesian dinner that will include teriyaki chicken and pork. Following the dinner, Legacy will perform a two-hour show that will teach about Polynesian legends and culture.
Approximately 80 percent of the students in the company are from UVSC. Tickets for the Luau are available at Campus Connection. All funds will go towards helping the dancer group members with their educational needs. For more information contact Moana Angilau at (801) 863-6059 or e-mail angilamo@uvsc.edu.
