UVSC Presents Ethics Awareness Week

UVSC will host its annual Ethics Awareness Week, Sept. 19-24, to discuss several issues ranging from the death penalty to business. The week will include discussion panels and addresses from Congressman Rob Bishop, former death row inmate Gary Gauger and Michael Radelet, chair of the Department of Sociology at the University of Colorado, Boulder. Allen Clarke, associate professor of integrated studies at UVSC, helped organize the event and said the week is a great opportunity for the community to learn about issues that affect their lives.
“It is really a gem in UVSC’s crown,” Clarke said. “Taking timeout to think thoughtfully about what we should do about these important issues is critical.”
Congressman Bishop is a two-term Representative from Utah’s First Congressional District. He will address the topic of “Practical Politics in Governing” on Monday, Sept. 19. Following his address, he will open for a question and answer session.
Gauger was sentenced to death but was released after an FBI investigation proved his innocence. Radelet co-authored In Spite of Innocence and has followed cases similar to Gauger’s. He is widely seen as the world’s foremost expert on the death penalty. Gauger and Radelet will speak Monday morning and host a forum that night. They will also participate in a panel discussion Tuesday morning.
